Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
I’m not sure if the world was calling out for another Resident Evil movie, especially quite so soon after the so called The Final Chapter landed just 5 years ago. But things move pretty fast these days in the movie world and the video game adaptation is back once again for what is a much darker, much more horror focused outing that brings in a host of the games favourite characters, zombies and things to make what is, overall, a pretty entertaining (if totally forgeable) outing.  Okay so by the last act it predictably goes off the rails as the CGI monsters (which are, quite frankly, rubbish) are pushed to the forefront but until then I actually found Welcome to Raccoon City to be an effective, creepy return to this world with a cast that gel surprisingly well together.  So no new ground is broken for sure but there’s a lot to enjoy for fans of the franchise.

Best Bit: The build up is effective

Cinema, Stream, Avoid: Stream
