Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
The MCU Phase 4 kicks off properly with the first Marvel origin movie since Captain Marvel arrived on Earth, bringing us new characters, new worlds and the return of a few familiar faces. That’s right now we are firmly in mystical Asian territory – think dragons, mythical rings, martial arts and super hero fight clubs. Kinda. As much Crouching Tiger as it is Doctor Strange, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is brilliant fun with a charismatic cast, lots of action and, for once, a strong villain who actually has a reason to be there (and a story arc that equally makes sense). Yes maybe it’s a BIT too CGI heavy (and some of that isn’t the best) but oddly for once it worked and fitted in with teh expanding world ‘Shaun’ finds himself in. Not perfect but one of Marvel’s strongest origin films.
Best Bit: The scaffolding fight
