Initiation (2021) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
I’m not sure why Initiation was marketed as a slasher/horror film. It’s well over a third of the film until someone finally dies and the majority of the runtime is left dealing with the ramification of those events in a very TV movie of the week style. Okay that’s a bit unfair – there are a few more kills but they feel like they are in a different movie.  Director John Berardo does try to do something a little different – visually the film throws in some interesting ideas and it has a few nice bloody moments – but it’s just never THAT exciting, feeling mostly little more than better than average lifetime movie.  At the end of the day there are 100’s of better college set slasher movies out there that demand your attention more than Initiation does.

Best Bit: Visual style is unique

Buy, Stream, Avoid: Avoid

If You Liked this Try: Jennifer’s Body, Carrie, Scream
