X-Men (2000) – A Rewatched Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
21 years later the original X-Men movie still remains a franchise highlight. Predating The Avengers by 12 years this was THE Marvel superhero team up of its time, an action packed (but story driven) superhero film that finally unleashed some of the potential of Stan Lee’s comic book history.  It’s fair to say that without X-Men and it’s success there probably wouldn’t have been a Marvel MCU.  Moreover you can see some of that Marvel casting genius early on – be it Hugh Jackman as the iconic Wolverine or Patrick Stewart as Professor X… it’s almost a perfect cast (yes almost – Toad i’m looking at you!). The film is restricted by budget but that probably plays to the film strengths – creativity is often better when money IS an issue. 21 years on whilst visually and in terms of budget it may not stand shoulder to shoulder with say Avengers: Endgame but there’s still a LOT to enjoy here – a genre defining superhero film that opened the doors to what we have today.

Best Bit: Wolverine is still a franchise standout

Worth A Rewatch: For sure.  Holds up really well.
