Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Star Trek: Deep Space 9 was always my favourite Star Trek shows, not least because I once had an opportunity to pitch story ideas to the producers in LA. But beyond THAT rather biased point of view, it was a show that broke a lot of new ground. An African American lead. The first serialised Star Trek series. The first Star Trek show set not on a ship but in one location where events had ramifications and the characters were more than just good or bad. DS9 was something new. Which is why, after all these years, I more than welcomed a documentary looking back at the show. And thank god then What We Left Behind is an affectionate, honest and often emotional look back at one of TV’s best shows with interviews with all the key players both in front and behind the camera back to pass comment, whilst offering a fascinating look at what season 8 could have looked like! It won’t appeal outside of the shows fan base but those who still look back with warmth and fondness on this show will get loads from it!
Best Bit: Season 8!
