Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
The Man with the Golden Gun was one of my most watched Bond films growing up. Probably more than even Goldfinger. Watching this back years later it’s fair to say that I probably over rated it somewhat – The Man with the Golden Gun does have issues (not least the odd Smokey And The Bandit styled JW Pepper return). There’s still lots to enjoy – Roger Moore is still super solid as Bond, the martial arts undertones add a fun and unique layer to the film and the continuation of more intimate Bond centric stories serve the character far better than it’s world threatening super villains that would come down the line. Also Christopher Lee is excellent, delivering one of the best and most memorable Bond villains yet. So a mixed bag for sure and maybe not ‘Premium’ Bond but its far from boring.
Best Bit: Christopher Lee is excellent as Scaramanga
