Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
I get that many people regard Moonraker as one of the low points of the Bond pantheon. After all its finale is set in space. With lasers. But for me, growing up in a post Star Wars world Moonraker was everything. I loved it back then and even now, years on, it remains one of the most fun Bond films ever made. I just love how balls out silly this film is – it moves so fast jumping from set piece to set piece and for the most part each are really well executed. Add in a strong bad guy, the fact that Roger Moore is obviously having a lot of fun and another batch of memorable quips & Bond Girls (not least Doctor Goodhead. Yes really. Goodhead ) and you have a film that never takes itself too seriously and that never forgets that it’s here to entertain. “Whats Bond doing?” “I think he’s attempting reentry sir”. Quite.
