Shadow & Bone (Season 1) – A Quick Capsule TV Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Starting off I wasn’t sure about Shadow & Bone .  After all does the world REALLY need another Game Of Thrones style fantasy series (especially considering how badly that one ended).  Equally unlike GOT Shadow & Bone arrives with a serious softening of its source material to make it more available to a wider audience. The Netflix effect.    It doesn’t start well.  There’s so much world building and heavy lifting in the first few episodes that, even now after finishing the season, I’m still not sure I understand it all.  It makes getting into the show quite hard.  BUT as the season went on and the world and characters bedded in, I really started to enjoy this rag tag fantasy.  With a decent budget, a fresh cast without previous baggage and some nice action and story beats Shadow & Bone got better and better, culminating in a really strong final episode that set up some intriguing directions for what follows.  So not perfect for sure but stick with it and Shadow & Bone does make it worth your while.

Best Bit: The final episode

Binge, Watch, Avoid: Watch

If You Liked this Try: Game Of Thrones (TV), His Dark Materials (TV), The Witcher (TV)
