Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
How the hell did I miss this one? Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is a post modern slasher film that takes the premise that killers like Micheal Myers, Freddy Kruger, Jason Vorhees et all are in fact real and the titular Leslie Vernon is working his way to being the next ‘big thing’.  With a well applied mocumentary format, a game cast and a really smart script that understands the genre it’s working in, this really is something a little different, taking that post modern ball that Scream started and really running with it.  It also happens to be one of the best slasher films of recent years, taking a pretty tired genre and doing something clever and unique with it.  So if you grew up with Jason, Michale, Chucky et all then this really is a must watch.
