The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Formally known as Connected, The Mitchells vs the Machines was set for release last year.  But the pandemic hit and without cinemas and a crowded schedule set for 2021 Sony passed this one over to Netflix, something that usually is a pretty bad sign (The Cloverfield Paradox anyone?) .  But fear not – not only is The Mitchells vs the Machines really good, as I write this it’s one of the best films of 2021 so far.  Arriving form producers Phil Lord & Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) this smart, funny and at times a bit too close to home comedy had me gripped form the start. Well drawn (no pun intended) characters, some very witty ongoing jokes and one of cinemas most loveable dogs all help but it’s the brilliantly sharp script and top draw animation that wins the day here. Add a health dose of tech satire and you have one of 2021’s first must see movies.

Best Bit: The dog. Obviously.

If You Liked this Try: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Lego Movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
