Goldfinger (1964) – A 007 Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
It’s hard to find a more iconic film than Goldfinger.  From its killer theme tune to its stream of iconic moments and one liners… this was the film that would set the template for every 007 film to follow.  Don’t get me wrong – there were flashes in From Russia With Love and Dr No but Goldfinger mixes it together into a formula that would still be copied and replicated almost 40 years later. It is a truly iconic film that’s influence reaches even beyond the Bond franchise. It holds up pretty well also – with an increased pace and slicker action from Connery’s previous outings.  It may not be the best story or even Connery’s best performance (that may be From Russia With Love)  but it’s the Bond film that still, even now, makes me smile the most.  “Do you expect me to talk?” “No Mr Bond I expect you to die”.  Faultless.

Best Bit: FAR too many to list

Buy, Stream, Avoid: Buy – it’s essential

If You Liked this Try: From Russia With Love, Skyfall, Live And Let Die
