Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Whilst Netflix may be flagging behind in its original movie stakes, it still very much leads the way in terms of its TV content. The Queen’s Gambit is no different and in fact ends up being one of their best of class shows. It’s phenomenal. A fictional story about a female chess prodigy may not sound like a winner but it gets almost everything right. From its glorious period design to its direction and writing, it’s a technical and creative masterpiece. But its Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead role as Beth that takes the show to a whole new level. She is nothing short of captivating, delivering a performance beyond her years and marking her out once again is one Hollywood’s best actors. Simply put you will be hooked across it’s seven episodes as Netflix once again delivers an instant classic.
Best Bit: The period look & detail is phenomenal
