Promising Young Woman (2020) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Promising Young Woman is a revenge film for the modern #metoo times. Billed as a dark comedy thriller its confidently directed, written and produced by newcomer Emerald Fennell with producing duties shared with Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap company.  A clever revenge story which takes an unflinching and often brutal look at rape culture, it set’s out is stall early and delivers dark twist after dark twist. Carey Mulligan is excellent as you’d expect and the film is packed with a host of ‘It’s them’ character actors who serve as her foils.  If you are looking for dark and twisted Promising Young Woman is for you.

Best Bit: Carey Mulligan is excellent but the ending is the star here
