Dredd (2012) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Dredd remains a revelation.  So far away from ‘the other version’, Dredd is lean, violent and brutal – just as a Judge Dredd film SHOULD be.  And whilst rumours remain that director Pete Travis was replaced by writer Alex Garland mid production it matters not – the pair of them manage to expertly distil the essence of what it is to be a cop in MegaCity 1 and deliver and near perfect slice of modestly budgeted action fare.  That the film was a commercial flop (due to some terrible marketing) despite overly positive reviews accounts to why we’ve yet to see the much deserved follow up but either way Dredd remains one of the best comic book adaptations of the 2010’s.
