Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Save for The Shining, until Shawshank came along Misery was considered to be one of, if not THE best, adaptations of a Stephen King book. You can see why – from Kathy Bates Oscar winning turn as Annie Wilkes to some tense direction from Robert Reiner and a great script by legendary screenwriter William Goldman – this was as big as it got back in 1990. But beyond the storied cast & crew it’s a great story to adapt – one of obsession, love and, rum, hobbling. Yup that scene stills hurst over 30 years on. Misery holds up well and still, all these years on, keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Best Bit: THAT scene
Worth A Rewatch: Yes. Holds up VERY well.
