Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Greed is a strange film. Part satire, part social commentary… sadly it fails to deliver enough of either instead coming off as an unfunny but interesting mess that. It feels like a student lecturing you about why something is wrong without really knowing the subject. You’d rightly expect better from a seasoned director like Winterbottom at the helm. Greed tells the story of self-made British billionaire Sir Richard McCreadie, or BHS’s own Philip Green if you will and, at times is a spectacular and biting satire on the disposable fashion industry. But for every note it hits it misses four or five others and criminally fails to deliver more than a few laughs across it’s run time. Even Coogan doesn’t even commit to the role and by the end the whole experience just feels like a hollow effort.
Best Bit: Lion.
