Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Da 5 Bloods is the latest Netflix big budget named director release following in the footsteps of Scorsese’s The Irishman last year. And man what an idea – Spike Lee, Delroy Lindo, Vietnam and a men of a mission styled story. Sounds great doesn’t it? So it’s odd then that it just doesn’t quite come together – especially as it’s a 100 minute film that clocks in at just over two and a half hours and feels ever second of it at times. It’s well made, the cast are great and when it kick into high gear it delivers on Lee’s usual intensity but it just feels too padded… not all worthy films have to be near three hours long and never is that more true than here. So overall it’s worth a watch but Netflix has FAR better.
Best Bit: Delroy Lindo is superb
