Wonder (2017) – A Quick Capsule Review

Wonder (2017) – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Wonder is a charming, heart warming and well acted drama that never misses an opportunity to twang on your heart strings across it’s somewhat bloated near two hour runtime.  Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson & especially Jacob Tremblay make this film giving a believability to the story but oddly whilst this film is about Auggie it was Izabela Vidovic as Via whose story resinated with me the most.  Yup it’s overlong and starts to repeat itself a touch but regardless Wonder is a joyful film that leaves you smiling.

Best Bit: Science

Love Simon (2018) – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Love Simon is a heartwarming romantic comedy… if a little over long and unfocused at times. But it’s the performances that really sell this film and the leads Josh Duhamel, Katherine Langford and Jennifer Garner do an amazing job of keeping the story focused.  A rom com for the modern generation, Love Simon has a lesson for people of all ages about love, identity and modern world.

Best Bit: The cute finale

The Podcasts The Smoking Lamb Podcast

It’s The Smoking Lamb Movie Podcast. A weekly, no-holds-baa-aa-arred, and R-rated look at the world of movies.

On this episode: With Josh still in denial that it’s Wintertime, Mike and Steve are left holding the baby once more. And what a week – a real test to their integrity as film reviewers, as thanks to the schedule left by Josh they were faced with what sounded like a really mawkish, saccharine saturated feelgood/tearjerker (it could have gone either way from the promos). And yes, they did watch it, and you can hear exactly what we thought of the film on the podcast! Not only that but there is the usual News Round-up, In our Educating… section Steve lets us know whether the Gene Wilder/Richard Prior comedy STIR CRAZY has stood the test of time, and our Top 5 this week is about films set in school.
