These Final Hours – A Quick Capsule Review

These Final Hours – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
These Final Hours is a cracking gem of a movie.  An Australian drama set at the very end of the world, it’s heartbreaking, bleak but yet oddly uplifting.  Also considering it’s limited budget it’s visually impressive and the direction is strong.  One of Netflix’s hidden gems…

Best Bit: The Beach

The Bomb – A Quick Capsule Review

The Bomb – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
The Bomb is a meditation on the power of nuclear weapons and their destructive, world changing power.  It’s not a narrative documentary, it’s more likely you’d find this documentary in museum or an arthouse movie festival.  That said it’s far from pretentious, stunningly edited and incredibly powerful in it’s message. I really liked this and at just under 60 minutes it’s an easy watch that leaves you dwelling on it’s message many hours later.

Best Bit: The music is amazing

Buy, Stream, Avoid: Stream (Netflix)

If You Liked this Try: The Manhattan Project, Threads, Fail Safe

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Holy shit.  Threads is purely and simply one of the most realistic and terrifying films I have ever seen in my life. Hands down.  After 30 years, this film is still a deeply disturbing picture of life after the bomb drops – endlessly gruesome, relentlessly depressing and lacking the cheap emotional  tricks of Hollywood, Threads is probably unlike any film I’ve ever seen.  A must see.  But be in a good mood first…

Best Bit: After 30 ye`are it’s still massively impactful.
