‘Phil’s Quick Capsule Review’ (a nod to legendary comedian Bill Hicks who coined the phrase when he reviewed ‘Piece Of Shit’ movie Basic Instinct)… where a perfect 10 is rarer than a rain free British summer!
Written by Phil Hobden – UK based podcaster, writer and former filmmaker. Part of the All Things Film network…
The final part of our run down of Phil’s Quick Review’s 100 Best Films as chosen by a select team of hosts, podcasters, fans and writers from Ross And Phil Talk Movies, The Smoking Lamb Podcast, Filmsploitation and the Phil’s Quick Review Facebook group.
Phil’s Quick Capsule Review: Imagine if Heat was remade by a lesser director with a ‘D’ level cast and mixed in with TV’s The Shield and The Usual Suspects… well you’d get Den of Thieves. Add a slice of Gerard Butler giving full on Gerard Butler and you have a film that is oddly more than the sum of it’s parts. Just. Look there’s nothing original or new here, everything is old hat and been done before. BUT it’s fun and ultimately that’s what popcorn cinema is all about. Having fun. So check the brain, grab a beer and enjoy this slice if enjoyable rubbish.
Best Bit: Gerard Butler being good
