Top 10 Tom Hardy Performances – Motion Picture Maniac (with Venom Teaser!)

Top 10 Tom Hardy Performances – Motion Picture Maniac (with Venom Teaser!)

Motion Picture Maniac

So the standalone Venom movie got its very first teaser trailer today (as I am writing this anyway) and while it didn’t give us a look at the big black beastie himself it did give us an excuse to laugh at all those heartbroken web articles, demanding answers like a bunch of football fans on the losing side as to why the studio ultimately decided not to unveil his new look. Pretending, for a moment, that the potentially post-production related answer isn’t as obvious as picking a fight with Tom “shut the f**k up you c**t” Hardy is a bad idea, or that French kissing Carnage will get your face slurped off, or – OR, get this, or that maybe, just maybe, CGI motion capture characters need to be RENDERED AND ANIMATED FIRST! HUH?

On that note, what satisfied me about the trailer was hearing Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and REALLY liking the sound of his voice, it’s not much to go on, this being a teaser and all, but it does sound like he’s got it down and I’m really looking forward to it. So I felt like putting together a list for him, my favourite performances of his, like I really need an excuse, he’s one of my favourite actors ever and I think I’m more excited for seeing his performance rather than the fact this could be Venom getting the cinematic justice he deserves; let’s get on – here are my top 10 favourite Tom Hardy performances.

Eames – Inception: “Mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger darling”

Farrier – Dunkirk: “I’m on him”

Max Rockatansky – Mad Max: Fury Road: “*grunt*”

James Keziah Delaney – Taboo: “Good day”

Ivan Locke – Locke: “I am the father”

John Fitzgerald – The Revenant: “I found God, and I shot and ate that son of a b**ch”

Reggie/Ronnie Kray – Legend: “Oh, I prefer boys/Hello Ron, cheers mate, f**k you”

Michael Peterson/Charles Bronson – Bronson: “What do I want…? What have you got?”

Bane – The Dark Knight Rises: “Shadows betray you because they belong to me”

Tommy Riordan Conlon – Warrior: “You owe me 200 bucks”

Phil’s Top 5… Christopher Nolan Films

Phil’s Top 5… Christopher Nolan Films

Other Cr*p Top 5

Each week Phil, from Phil’s Quick Capsule Review, takes a look at a different movie or TV related Top Five.  This time out: On the heels of Dunkirk we look at Christopher Nolan Top 5 Films…

Close but no cigar: Insomnia, Memento, The Dark Knight Rises

5 – Intersteller
Epic, confusing, pretentious, muddled, genius… you name it, Interstellar’s been called it BUT for every small miss step, this is blockbuster filmmaking at it’s grandest.

4 – Batman Begins
After Batman & Robin killed the franchise dead, Nolan had a mountain to climb.  He did it by grounding Batman in reality and two of the best ever comic book movies was born.

3 – The Prestige
It’s the Nolan film that most forget, but The Prestige is a cracking film and possibly Nolan’s bets in many peoples opinions.

2 – Inception
Twisting stories have always been some what of a hall mark of Nolan and here he takes it to a whole new level. Visually stunning and one of the most intelligent blockbusters ever made.

1 – The Dark Knight
Simple put one of the best films of the 00’s so far, it’s also the best Batman film and the best Superhero film.  So much more than Heath Ledger’s final film, Nolan knocks it out the park.

5 – The Matrix

4 – The Hobbit The Unexpected Journey

3 – Frozen

2 – Star Trek Into Darkness

1 – Prometheus

Phil’s Top 5… Batman Films

Phil’s Top 5… Batman Films

Other Cr*p Top 5

In a new semi-regular feature each week Phil takes a lookout a different movie related Top Five… this time out: Batman movies!

Close but no cigar: Batman, Batman Vs Superman Dawn Of Justice, The Dark Knight Rises

5 – Batman: The Movie
Camp? Yes.  Hysterical? Hell yes. Adam West delivers the most fun Batman ever with a host of villains and some nutty moments from running with the bomb to Bat Shark repellent.  It’s genius.

4 – Batman Begins
Christopher Nolan set out a new generation of Batman films with his darkly grounded noir take on Batman’s origin.  It’s totally different from everything that came before and delivered a Batman we hadn’t yet seen on screen.

3 – Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
The best animated Batman film, Mask of The Phantasm sees Batman as detective in a spin off from the insanely great Batman Animated TV show.

2 – Batman Returns
Imagine the pitch… Burger King sit down to look at Batman Returns in all it’s glory to plan their multi-million dollar tie ins and instead of a sequel to the original Batman they get a darkly gothic german expressionism masterpiece that is about the most unsettling film to sit a kid down infant of ever.

1 – The Dark Knight
Yup.  My favourite film of the 00’s and one of THE best superhero films ever, The Dark Knight has compelling action, the best onscreen Joker and a driving narrative that keep the pace up despite the run time.  Oh and it looks amazing.
