Phil’s Top 5… Bad Films By Great Directors

Phil’s Top 5… Bad Films By Great Directors

Other Cr*p Top 5

Each week Phil, from Phil’s Quick Capsule Review, takes a look at a different movie or TV related Top Five.  This time out: Bad Films By Great Directors

Close but no cigar: The Lovely Bones (Peter Jackson), For The Love Of The Game (Sam Rami), Noah (Darren Aronofsky), Dark Shadows (Tim Burton), Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (Steven Spielberg)

5. Black Hat (Michael Mann)
One of the worst films of that year, Black Hat played like a greatest hits of Mann films.  A bit of Heat, a touch of Collateral, a hint of Miami Vice.  Sadly thought it was just a mess.

4. Alexander (Oliver Stone)
I remember laughing out loud at this over blown biblical mess.  Then crying when I realised we have over two hours left.

3. Ghost Of Mars (John Carpenter)
Ice Cube and Jason Statham, a terrible script and Carpenter picking up a pay check did little to help this critically mulled film.

2. Bonfire Of The Vanities (Brian DePalma)
Overblown, bloated and stuffed full of pretentiousness, this mess saw Willis, Hanks and Griffith try their best with an unfilmable book and a director off form.  Made just $15 million USD against a budget of $45 million USD on it’s initial run

1.Survival of The Dead (George A Romero)
A hero to me, his original dead trilogy still stand as some of the greatest horror films ever made.  It started going wrong with Land, Diary was a mess and Survival featured Zombies on horse back.
