Tomb Raider (2018) – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Tomb Raider isn’t the best video game adaptation ever made but it’s also far from the worst.  The films biggest issues is that because it quite faithfully recreates the story from teh 2013 game reboot it often feels a little too faithful, hitting the games key beats just without the fun of you controlling the outcome.    That said the cast is fun, Alicia Vikander makes a damn good Lara Croft and the action is good for the most part.  It’s just a shame the script wasn’t better.  So not a miss.  But only just.

Best Bit: China boat foot chase.

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Look this genuinely does deserve it’s reputation as a bad film.  Hoskins’s, so the legend goes, wanted a new swimming pool.  This paid for that.  BUT there’s still a lot of fun to be had.  It’s silly, it’s heart’s very much in the right place and the cast do their best.  The BluRay release is well handled, the film looks good and ANY chance to see Dennis Hopper at his crazy best is worth it.  One for the fans…

Best Bit: Hoskins is fun. As is Hopper.
