Hidden Figures – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Hidden Figures is a film that makes you wince.  Not at the excellent direction or superbly acted drama but that such horrible attitudes still existed only 50 ish years ago.  It affects you as any good story should and this is a really good story, well told and well directed.  It’s disarmingly charming yet packs a real punch.  One to watch for sure.

Best Bit: The Pentagon briefing

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
When you consider that the United States has more prisoners in jail than any other country in the world and that a large majority are non-white Americans who have fallen victim to laws seemingly created to target at them directly, it’s no surprise that 13th carries with it quite a punch. A well made impactful and memorial documentary 13th will open your eyes to the persecution and injustice that seems rife in America today. Powerful stuff.

Best Bit: Stylishly made

Moonlight – A Quick Capsule Review

Moonlight – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Moonlight is an interesting failure. Actually failure is a bit harsh. The film doesn’t fail – the direction is great and the central performances are top draw but overall it feels a little TV movie of the week.  Be it the bullying (which feels like Home & Away at times) or the boys self discovery, there’s nothing here that feels groundbreaking or fresh. That said the performances alone make this worth watching and whilst it falls short of the critical praise heaped on it, it’s worthy enough to spend a couple of hours film

Best Bit: The Performances
