Sweetheart (2019) – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Sweetheart is yet another modestly budgeted, low key Blumhouse release.  But this one ended up going directly to home/streaming which is a shame as, even though it’s pretty low key with it’s small but well formed cast, it’s still a solid genre-hybrid horror thriller that crosses a Lost with any number of monster & creature features from the 80’s & 90’s. Sweetheart is a tightly constructed, well made and delivers some nice tension across its sub 90 minute run time.

Best Bit: The reveal

Other Cr*p Top 5

Each week Phil, from Phil’s Quick Capsule Review, takes a look at a different movie or TV related Top Five.  This time out:  TV Shows That Dived in Quality

Close but no cigar: Homeland, True Detective, American Crime Story , Sliders, Heroes

5 – Arrow
Arrow started so well, with a spirited cast, simple story and great action.  Whilst the action is still there the rest, sadly, has fallen by the wayside.

4 – Sherlock
The first two seasons especially were sharp, witty and essential.  It ended as a mess as far removed from the source material as you could get.

3 – Lost
Lost was never going to stick the landing, especially when you learnt that there was never a planned story. But man that final season was pretty bad.

2 – Dexter
Dexter was the best show on TV for 4 1/2 seasons.  Sadly it went on for much longer, cumulating in a final year that was about on of the worst final years in of a show in memory.

1 – The Walking Dead
The fall of The Walking Dead has been pretty epic.  From TV’s best show to what is now, at best, a boring, repetitive mess.
