Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s the Fantastic Four (2015) – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s the Fantastic Four takes a look behind the scenes of the never released (but often pirated) version of Marvel’s superhero franchise. It’s fascinating stuff – from a cast and crew with loft ambitions to shady dealings by everyone from Corman to Stan Lee.  There’s extensive interviews with all the key players (well except those on the ‘other side’) and lot s of behind the scenes and film footage to salivate over.  If you want to see what marvel was like before it became the company we all now know and love, this is the film for you.  Well worth a watch (and probably still better than Fox’s Fantastic Four films)

Best Bit: The actual film footage

Blog: Fantastic Four (2015) – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Okay so the biggest flop of the year (well next to Pan maybe) is every bit the mess you expect.  BUT and here’s the kicker it’s not a terrible film.  It has some great ideas, some cool moments and at times solid direction.  It also has the hallmark of a film in which the audio lost faith in both the vision of what it was meant to be and the director helming it.   Last minute reshoots and rewrites are evident here as the film builds to an idea that throws it all away to deliver a climax that was never really built up to mean anything.  All this aside its the ONE superhero film that does things a little differently than the rest and its kinda worth seeing for those moments that show you what it COULD have been.

Best Bit: Body Horror

Buy, Stream, Avoid: Stream

If You Liked this Try: Ant Man, Fantastic Four Rise Of The Silver Surfer, Guardians Of The Galaxy
