Farmageddon: A Shaun the Sheep Movie (2019) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
After the ‘slight’ misfire that was Early Man, Ardman returns back to one of its most beloved characters for a sequel to 2015’s  much loved Shaun the Sheep: The Movie.  It’s fair to say that once again they deliver the goods – Farmageddon is a wonderful film full of great jokes, charming characters and epic set pieces that rival (and eclipse) some of the best comedy films of 2019.  Smartly they also make sure there’s more than enough for grown ups – with references from a plethora of Sci-Fi classics like X-Files, 2001, Close Encounters and many more.  It’s a joyful, smart and beautiful film that will easily appeal to kids and parents alike.

Best Bit: The supermarket – one of the best scenes of 2019

Early Man – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
It had to happen.  After a run of films and TV shows that delivered hit after hit, Early Man is the first take it or leave it Ardman production. That’s not to say that it’s a bad film – it’s really not. But it falls short of the combination of great story and clever animation that we have come to expect from one of the most consistent film studios in recent memory.  The voice cast are good, the animation is strong but even as a football fan I found it hard to connect to a story that seems at odds with the setting.  Kids loved it however so maybe it was just me.  Good but not essential.

Best Bit: The openning sequence
