Phil’s Top 5… Chucky (Child’s Play) Films

Phil’s Top 5… Chucky (Child’s Play) Films

Other Cr*p Top 5

Each week Phil, from Phil’s Quick Capsule Review, takes a look at a different movie or TV related Top Five.  This time out to celebrate the upcoming Cult Of Chucky… my top 5 Child’s Play/ Chucky films!

Close but no cigar: Seed Of Chucky, Child’s Play 3

5 – Curse Of Chucky
After the disappointing Seed of Chucky, Curse reset the franchise one again, stripped away some of the baggage and took the franchise back to it’s more simple origins.  Great fun.

4 – Cult of Chucky
The latest entry into the Child’s Play/Chucky series follows the story threads set out in Curse Of Chucky but moves the horror to an asylum whilst bringing original hero Andy back into the fold.

3 – Child’s Play 2
Child’s Play 2 upped the gore, allowed Dourif to cut loose and dropped far more bodies that ever before.  Many consider this to be one of the best entries.

2 – Child’s Play
The original and still one of the strongest entry, it’s a primal fear of your prized and lovinmg doll coming to life and brutally murdering people.  Kinda.

1 – Bride Of Chucky
Bride Of Chucky was a marked change of pace for what had become a bit of a tired franchise.  More horror comedy than straight slasher, Bride introduced Tiffany, through out a load of previous continuity and upped the camp. It works and it relaunched the franchise into the era Chucky rather than Child’s Play.

Cult of Chucky – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Cult of Chucky is a fun 7th entry into the never ending Child’s Play/ Chucky series, working as a direct sequel to 2013’s Curse Of Chucky but revisiting characters from the original Childs Play all those years ago.   Set most in an asylum and focusing on Fiona Dourif’s Nica it’s pretty much more of the same with Chucky offing people one by one.  Tilly is fun, both Dourif’s are great and the gore, whilst not plentiful, does eventually come. Wont make new fans for sure BUT it’s one of the better entry’s.

Best Bit: Dourif once again
