Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Fighting With My Family follows the standard format of the sports movie almost to the letter.  You’ve seen it in Rocky, The Karate Kid and hell even Cool Runnings.  Underdog get’s their shot at the big time, wobbles, comes through it and ends up beating the odds.  What makes Fighting With My Family stand out from the more run of the mill offerings is the heart on show.  The pitch perfect cast really deliver (yes this is the rare good Vince Vaughn performance), especially Florence Pugh who totally convinces as soon to be WWE wrestler Paige (no spoilers – this is based on a true story) and it’s good to see The Rock as, well, The Rock.  Reminded me of my youth.  The ending almost brought a tear to my eye and whilst the film probably does focus a bit too much on the wrestling side (which could put people off) this is a cracking film and well worth a watch.

Andre the Giant (2018) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Andre the Giant is an excellent HBO documentary  that takes a look at the highs and lows of one of the most iconic professional wrestlers to ever step into the ring.  From his early starts in the European regionals to his big break with the WWE, the documentary takes an in-depth look at who Andre was both in and out the ring.  It’s fascinating stuff that ranges from funny to tragic as the life of a 7″ plus giant is laid out in detail.  With witty & fascinating stories from key figures (including Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair) through to interviews with his family and directors that worked with him in his film career, this is a must see documentary for fans of this once in a life time icon.

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Few people will remember the crazy antics of GLOW – the Glamorous Ladies Of Wrestling. Even as a wrestling fan of the late 80’s I only have a passing memory.  But this 2012 documentary, released on Netflix on the eve of it’s own dramatised GLOW series, gives you an affectionate look back at the rapping, highly stylised characters behind what was a landmark in wrestling television.  One for fans and non fans alike.

Best Bit: The reunion
