Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
The Rhythm Section feels like another one of those cookie cutter mid budget European action films that usually come from Luc Besson and the Europa team. The fact it’s not then should only tell you that where as the action is usually the saving grace of those films (narrative and plot coming a distance second place), sadly Reed Morano’s film doesn’t even have that to fall back on. Okay that’s a bit harsh – The Rhythm Section isn’t really an action film but it would have been far better pumping out a few set pieces to cut through the unbelievable and repetitive plot. Jude Law provides solid support and Lively is a standout but overall this would probably have worked better on the small screen with the story given more time to grow and develop.
Best Bit: Lively is excellent in the main role
