Ad Astra (2019) – A Quick Capsule Review

Ad Astra (2019) – A Quick Capsule Review

Quick Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
If you want a slow, sedative (and times a touch boring) and pretty randomly structured sci-fi retelling of Heart Of Darkness then you hit pay-dirt with Brad Pitt’s Ad Astra.   If you are guessing from that opening line this film may not be for everyone – you’d be spot on.  Whilst I enjoyed Ad Astra to a point, my wife was much less of a fan.  And I get why.  It’s so slow, little really happens and the film has such a singular monotone approach that, much like Pitt’s character, rarely sees its heart rate jump about 50. BUT it’s gorgeously shot, Pitt does brooding well and it has enough random moments to make it worth talking about.  Just don’t expect something action packed.

Best Bit: Moon chase

Buy, Stream, Avoid: Stream

If You Liked this Try: Apocalypse Now, Hearts Of Darkness: A Filmmaker Apocalypse, Heart of Darkness
