V For Vendetta (2005) – A Guy Fawkes Night Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
In 2020 V For Vendetta feels like it was made yesterday.  A government controlling a country in the wake of a killer virus, the stripping of liberties, the fall of democracy, the rise of unrest and defiance… sound familiar? The James McTeigue directed, Wachowski produced and written sci-fi film still packs a hell of a punch.  From Hugo Weavings masked V to Natalie Portman’s spirited Evey, the film plays off its excellent central chemistry whilst giving the text book example of how to adapt a graphic novel.  And whilst the central idea may have been corrupted since it’s initial creation by a generation of vegan snowflakes, you cant help but think the world needs a big of V right now…
