Dune: Part 1 (2021) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
The second time author Frank Herbert’s supposedly unfilmable epic Dune has made it to the big screen and this time in the hands of one of cinemas true auteurs – Denis Villeneuve.  So can the French Canadian director do a better job of landing this one than David Lynch did back in the 80’s? Actually yes. In fact Dune 2021 is, hands down, one of the year best films.  It doesn’t matter that, technically, this is Dune:Part 1 and a LOT of the films considerable run time is build up for Part 2 (thing Fellowship to 2023’s Return of The King)… this is epic, grandiose visionary filmmaking at its most compelling.  I was genuinely blown away by Dune – from the cast, to the FX, to the visual execution and music (which for a Hans Zimmer score actually seemed unique for once)… Villeneuve delivers a sci-fi epic that was MADE for the cinema.  In a word…EPIC!

Best Bit: Visually the film is stunning

Cinema, Stream, Avoid: Cinema (Please see this on the big screen)

If You Liked this Try: Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Dune
