Casino Royale (2006) – A 007 Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
A new era of Bond begins – a new 007 in British actor Daniel Craig, a new more grounded approach (no space lasers here) and, for the first time, we go back to where it all began.  Well mostly. Casino Royale takes the wheel and has a go at reinventing it and is all the better for it – a tense, action packed, emotional outing that ends up being one of the strongest Bond movies to date.  Yes you can argue that the film lacks an overall big bad and that it goes on a bit too long but what I’ve always loved about Casino Royale is that it isn’t afraid to take the tropes of this series and invert them – for all the PC’ness that starts to creep into the later Craig era, Casino Royale nails the stronger female lead, the cold Bond and the out of time agent better than any other film in this series.  In short: this is Classic Bond.

Best Bit: The action is for sure some of Bonds best
