WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn (2021) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
The story of WeWork is fascinating.  One of the worlds biggest ‘unicorns’ (a business worth over a Billion USD) who, it turns out, was built on foundations of lies, bad management and the cult leader like status of its founder. Seriously in another world this could have been David Koresh stood up there.  What we end up with is another tech financial horror story where billions are lost under clever PR and marketing and a demi-god founder sees an epic, almost unprecedented, fall from grace.  It’s compelling stuff for sure but the challenge is it’s very surface with the documentary failing to go deep on Neuman.  Equally this is ground almost identically covered by the superior Bloomberg Foundering podcast series. So for those new to the story and with an interest in tech this is a must watch  but for anyone aware of the WeWork story this will only gloss the surface.
