The World Is Not Enough (1999) – A 007 Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.  I remember liking The World Is Not Enough first time out, I remember thinking the story and twists were quite unique for a Bond film and that Robert Carlyle was an inspired choice for a Bond villain.  Oh how wrong I was.  The challenge here is whilst there’s some enjoyable action in The World Is Not Enough there’s next to no story momentum and even less chemistry between 007 and his two leading ladies.  Denise Richard is hysterically miscast as a nuclear scientist (in a tight shirt and hot pants no less) and director Apted is spectacularly out of his comfort zone with a big budget Bond film.  The story ambles along until it ends and, well, that was it.  Oh and the less said about John Cleese the better. One of the weakest of all the Bond films.

Best Bit: “I thought Christmas only came once a year”
