Gunpowder Milkshake (2021) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Joan Wick?  Not quite but Gunpowder Milkshake wants to be (well that and Leon, Kill Bill and about 20 other films you’ve seen that are, in reality, much better). The story – to protect an 8-year-old girl, a dangerous assassin reunites with her mother and her lethal associates to take down a ruthless crime syndicate and its army of henchmen. Sounds great doesn’t it?  Add in a load of artful shootouts, slow motion gun play (and hammers, chains and tomahawks) and exploding heads (sadly all CGI) and you have all the ingredients of a really great cake.  Sadly then director Navot Papushado isn’t quite the cook for the job, delivering an overlong, occasional spectacular (and equally occasionally a bit dull) and messy female action film that should have been much better.  Thank god then for a great cast who elevate the film much higher than it deserves.  So a mess then but not an unwatchable one.

Best Bit: Library finale
