Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
A new era of Bond begins after Timothy Dalton’s brief turn and it begins strong – Goldeneye is one of 007’s strongest outings with Brosnan bringing his considerable charm to the suave secret agent. From it’s impressive bungee jump opener to its twisting plot, top tier title sequence and theme tune, strong female characters and epic tank chase… this is clearly Bond competing against the big screen action films of its day and doing it very well indeed. Whilst Brosnan may be a little stiff to start he does immediately own the role and director Martin Campbell does what he does best – deliver well crafted narratives to go alongside Bond’s polished action. The ONLY negative then is Eric Serra’s music which almost derails the film at the start but thankfully even that gets booted half way through. Bond is back and he’s (almost) better than ever.
