Flying Monkeys (2013) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Every so often Netflix shows up a title SO obscure and odd that you kinda just have to just give it a go just in case it lives up to its title/poster/synopsis. That was the case with Flying Monkeys, a 2013 SyFy movie that’s just arrived on the platform here in the UK – a low budget Z grade direct to TV sci-fi horror about, well, deadly monkeys that fly.  Obviously.  Look by any normal or conventional review system this film is trash – bad CGI, bad acting and direction that is lacking.  Yet it all kinda becomes more than the sum of its parts.  The people involved seem to a actually care and rather than just chucking out some trash to die on a Saturday night you get the feeling everyone wants this to work.  And that, somehow, elevates this above the norm.  I enjoyed it.  It wasn’t horrible. It was occasionally quite inventive and, at sub 90 minutes, didn’t hang around. So not for everyone but if you like Sharknado (and I really did) then Flying Monkeys is worth a try…

Best Bit: Not just one…

Buy, Stream, Avoid: Stream

If You Liked this Try: Sharknado, Ticks, The Wizard of Oz (Come on it has FLYING MONKEYS in it!)

6 out of 10 stars
