Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Val Kilmer has been through a lot. From divorce and family tragedy to throat cancer, being labelled “Hard to work with” and, of course, films like The Island of Dr. Moreau. Who would have thought that all that time he’s been documenting every role, every ambition and even every audition tape, filming hours and hours of footage to form the basis of what has become a unique, interesting and often sad look at the career of an actor who many have probably forgotten just how many great films he’d been involved in. And… well The Island of Dr. Moreau. It’s fascinating stuff, made even more interesting as you witness Val surviving throat cancer at the start of what may well have been a career reassurance, one that now seems like a thing of the past. It’s sad, inspiring and (for fans like me of films like Top Gun) an essential look ‘behind the curtain’s some of the 80’s and 90’s biggest and best films. Watch now on Amazon Prime.
Best Bit: Top Gun behind the scenes (I may be a BIT biased on that one!)
