Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
For many Snatch is Guy Ritchie’s finest hour, a more mature movie than Lock, Stock and one that builds on the cockney stylings of his debut film with a bigger cast and more complex narrative. I’m not sure I agree but it’s pretty close – Snatch is brilliant and even now, twenty + years later, it holds up brilliantly. Jason Statham shows his star power early, but even with his excellent performance it’s the films memorable side characters that steal the show – not least Alan Ford as gangster ‘Bricktop’ and Brad Pitt as gypsy boxer ‘Mickey’. The script sparkles, the direction is fun and the film has a great soundtrack. In short Snatch is one of the finest modern British films ever and well deserving of a place in our Hall of Fame!
