Black Widow (2021) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Finally!  The first MCU film since 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home arrives in cinema after over a year of delays and a building crescendo of expectation.  So does Natasha Romanova’s long awaited big screen solo movie live up to expectations?  Well yes.  Mostly.  It just doesn’t exceed them and that may be the issue for many.  The challenge is with Marvel that the bar keeps getting raised higher and higher so the fact Black Widow doesn’t even attempt to topple the global stakes of an Endgame or even Far From Home is a good thing. Where it does fall down is that the films action isn’t the strongest – with sections that lag and action sequences that don’t feel quite up to Marvel’s usual standards.  Different is good but here is just isn’t good enough.  Also Taskmaster is wasted and teh films music gets oddly close to sounding like Man Of Steel.  Small downers aside this is a good film with humour, heart and with some great cast additions including David Harbour, Rachel Weisz and a phenomenal Florence Pugh.   Not top draw Marvel then but still pretty damn good.

Best Bit: Widow Vs Widow, Sister vs Sister

Cinema, Stream, Avoid: Cinema

If You Liked this Try: Iron Man, Thor, Captain Marvel
