Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
It’s fair to say just the thought of Zack Snyder’s Justice League filled me with dread.  A 4 hour film by a director who, at best, has made one great film and a load of average or poor ones, and to date has failed to show any of the required skills to land a super hero film… well lets just say it wasn’t something I was looking forward to. Looks like having low expectations helps.  Because whilst is’s not the holy grail of cinematic movie making some critics have called out, Zack Snyder’s Justice League works.  And at times it works REALLY well.  This feels like a directors true vision for a film (good and bad) – from it’s overuse of slo-mo, to it’s 4:3 academy style ratio, R rating and artistic music choices… this is Snyder’s film, how he wants to deliver it. F-Bombs and all.  It’s also, for me, the first time that the DCEU has (well expect maybe last years Harley Quinn film) has felt like it’s not copying Marvel.  It has issues… of course it does it’s still a Zack Snyder film after all.  I’m still not bought into Ray Fisher’s Cyborg (the costume design is horrid), the pace is criminally slow at times and at four hours it tests your endurance and love for CGI. BUT considering how bad Joss Whedon’s version was… well lets’ just say there isn’t a CGI moustache removal in sight here.  Thank god.

Best Bit: Is it wrong that I kinda liked Leto as The Joker here?
