WandaVision (2020) – A Quick Capsule TV Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
A lot of people probably (my family included) didn’t make it past the first two episodes of WandaVision.  The odd TV ratios, the black & white sitcom studio style…. it was a bold way to launch a new world of Marvel TV shows.  But beyond that initial shock pretty quickly WandaVision become a very ‘Marvel’ show with all the same positives and trappings that the films have shared over the past 13+ years.  It made you care about the titular paring more than you ever have but wasn’t afraid to throw a CGI thing fighting a CGI thing in at the end to add action to the proceedings.  The biggest issue with the show for many was that the fan theories ended up being far more interesting than the show itself… X-Men, Dr Strange, alternate universes, Mephisto all sounded great on paper by in the end it was a much simpler story.  On reflection this was probably its strength also.  As the 9 episode run closed it promised a much darker journey for its leads which, no doubt, will be picked up by other Phase 4 films but whatever the end game WandaVison remains a bold and mostly successful first step into TV for the MCU.
