Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Sometimes you watch a film that has all the right ingredients – good cast, well shot and competently directed – but yet for some reason it just doesn’t connect or inspire. That film for me is The Secret Garden, the latest (and 4th) adaptation of the Frances Hodgson Burnett novel. Much like the recent remake of Rebecca, The Secret Garden suffers from its now dated source material, material that now feels very obvious and out of time in the 21st century. By the end (and it’s not a long film) I was pretty ready for it to finish and move onto something else.
Best Bit: The garden is wonderfully realised
