The Hustle (2019) – A Quick Capsule Review

Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
The Hustle, directed by The Thick Of It star Chris Addison and starring a rather game Anne Hathaway and a suitably OTT Rebel Wilson, is effectively a female centric remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (itself a remake of the Marlon Brando & David Niven film Bedtime Story) and was probably rightly panned on it’s release back in 2019.  But actually there’s a lot to like here – not least the lead cast who are obviously having fun.  It’s not laugh out loud funny but I chuckled several times and was never bored.  Okay so Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a better film for sure (mostly due to Caine and Martin) but for a simple time passer you can probably do far worse than this.  Even if The Guardian did give it 1/5 and said that lead Hathaway “detonates a megaton blast of pure unfunniness in this terrifying film.”.  Harsh.

Best Bit: xxxxxx

Buy, Stream, Avoid: Stream (even if most will say avoid)

If You Liked this Try: Bedtime Story, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Ocean’s Eleven (2001)
