Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
The biggest challenge I Care A Lot has is that the film is full a unlikeable people. In fact even the few sympathetic people in the film aren’t really that sympathetic by the end. This limitation can be over come – The Wolf Of Wall Street for example gets around this just being a great film – but it’s a tall order. Not surprising then that I Care A Lot falls a little short overall BUT that’s not to say there isn’t a load of things to like here – from Rosamund Pike’s excellent central performance to Peter Dinklage’s spiky Russian mobster, both are obviously enjoying the material in hand. The direction is strong (from British director J Blakeson) and the film has a pace that keeps you engaged in the story, even if you may fail to engage in the characters. So… flawed for sure but a good watch regardless.
Best Bit: Strong performances
