Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Monster Hunter is pretty much your A-Typical Paul WS Anderson film. Video game adaptation? Check. Milla Jovovich? Check. Zero story, terrible script? Check. A sensation of knowing you should hate it but actually don’t? Check. Look for a $60 million budged movie Monster Hunter looks pretty good – the CGI is well done and the monsters well designed overall. And the film starts well – the opening monster battle is actually pretty spectacular. But soon after the story falls apart, the battles become a little ‘been there done that’ and Ron Pearlman’s wig starts to be the most interesting thing on screen. It’s not the worst film you will see this year. But that’s no recommendation either.
Best Bit: The wig. Oh god.
