Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
Darkest Hour hangs on the central performance of Gary Oldman. And it’s an epic one, nailing a sympathetic but belligerent Winston Churchill and in turn delivering one of this years best performances. This said… it’s a shame then that the rest of the film seems so televisual and fails to live up to what Oldman delivers. It’s not that it’s bad but it just lacks scope and director Wright just doesn’t deliver enough visual punch or story to make this stand out. So great performance, okay film.
Best Bit: Oldman
