Phil’s Quick Capsule Review:
To be honest I didn’t really know that much about the Beastie Boys. I was a tangential fan of their music for sure but in terms of the bands history and personalities I had no clue. Thankfully then that the Beastie Boys Story, directed by the always good value Spike Jonze, takes a comprehensive, personal and intimate look at the career of these genre breaking artists. Remaining band members Mike Diamond and Adam Horovitz walk you through story of their band, their 40 years of friendship together and their obvious loss felt for Adam Yauch who died in 2012. It’s fascinating stuff, made even stronger by the no thrills format – Just Diamond & Horovitz on stage with some video clips recounting stories, history and challenges… all with a high degree of honesty. A must watch even for those who may not love the music.
